Mike Strobel, the creator of Star Trek: Supremacy, will be attending the Las Vegas Star Trek convention in August 5 – 8th 2010. He will talk about Birth of the Federation and the development of Star Trek: Supremacy.

StarCraft 2 is a real-time strategy game developed by Blizzard, sequel of the successful title made by the same developer: StarCraft. The game features three distinct races: the Zerg, the Terrans and the Protoss. Each has its own distinct units, some of them returning from the original title, others completely new.
Wings of Liberty takes place several years after StarCraft: Brood War events. Some heroes will return like Jim Raynor from the original StarCraft. The Civilization series is probably one of the best that PC Gaming has ever known. Ask any strategy gamer about it and the odds are that he has played at least one of the Civilization titles during his gaming life time, or at least a Sid Meier’s title (Railroad Tycoon, Alpha Centauri, Colonization, Pirates and many more).
And really it is no big surprise because Civilization is really what strategy gaming is all about. Since the game starts till it finishes it is all about making decisions, some minor, others of tremendous importance, these last will dictate if your civilization will thrive or be left dead forever forgotten in the ages. Sins of a Solar Empire – Trinity – is a very nicely done game. It excels on providing a rich gaming experience that will no doubt entertain you for many hours. Ironclad and Stardock deserve an applause for having created a game that successfully mixes the RTS mechanic with the 4x genre in such a fantastic way.
Sins of a Solar Empire is a very fun experience and I strongly recommend it to all Sci-Fi fans that love Real-Time strategy, this is a must title for you guys. For the Sci-Fi Turn-Based fans that enjoy more the traditional 4x experience I also recommend you have a try, I include myself in this last bunch and I can assure you that I have fun playing the game. Last week Kerberos Productions and Paradox Interactive announced Sword of the Stars 2. This will be the sequel to the Kerbero’s franchise 4x game title Sword of the Stars (SotS).
Without revealing much about the sequel they said that the game will bring back the original six races and introduce a new race: the Suul’ka which is an ancient race in the SotS universe that will be central to the title main story plot.
The developer and the publisher were already teamed up on the first SotS game, but not since the beginning where the former publisher was Lightouse Interactice. Continue reading
Distant Worlds is a new real-time 4x space strategy game being developed by CodeForce and to be published by Matrix Games. The game beta phase is now almost finished and although the official game release date is not yet announced the game is expected to be released in the first quarter of 2010.
Distant Worlds is a real-time strategy game. In contrast with turn-based games like Master of Orion 2, Galactic Civilizations or Armada 2526, in DW the player can be surprised at any time by new events or by enemy attacks which requires the player to make decisions on the spot in a continuous gaming experience. This may seem like an odd question to make but sometimes I question myself why do I and so many other people like to play space strategy games so much, to the point of preferring them to any other game genres. Liking to play games is a universal truth and a Human natural activity. But with respect to video games and specially to strategy games why the space sci-fi theme?
Lately I’ve been quite interested in understanding how games work and so I’m reading the book: “The Art of Game Design: A book of Lenses” (excellent book by the way for anyone interested in designing games of any kind). Developed by Ironclad and published by Stardock, Sins of a Solar Empire is one of the best space RTS experiences available.
SoaSE incarnates the Homeworld style but where in Homeworld you control a single fleet in complex tactical battles embarking in an epic story in Sins you control many fleets and conduct epic battles with simpler tactical control over them. Sins offers epic battles with lots of spaceships in gorgeous sets.

Star Trek Supremacy is a 4x space strategy game being developed by Mike Strobel. It is a Non-commercial Open Source project that will be made available for free to the public. The game is not licensed by the Star Trek franchise, it is a title being developed by an independent developer as an hobby.
Supremacy picks up from the classic Microprose title Star Trek Birth of the Federation, a.k.a. Star Trek: BOTF. Supremacy’s intention is to be a BOTF’s rightful successor. Sometimes Supremacy is also known in the community as Star Trek Birth of Federation 2 (BOTF2). Continue reading
