Mass Effect 3 Demo Now Available for PC, XBox 360 and PS3

By on February 15th, 2012 9:23 am

Mass Effect 3 is one of the most anticipated sci-fi video games of 2012, and BioWare has just released a demo featuring “over two hours of the single-player campaign and co-op multiplayer missions” for all the platforms the game will be available on, which are the PC, XBox 360 and Playstation 3. Now, will this new sci-fi installment follow more on the original title’s footsteps, offering a stronger RPG experience, or will it offer a more streamlined blend of RPG/FPS gameplay, like in Mass Effect 2? One thing seems to be sure, this new sequel promises to continue to offer vibrant interactive storytelling, which has always been a landmark of the series.

With this new sequel, the intergalactic action RPG trilogy (announced as such) will be complete. You will continue to play as Commander Shepard and must now lead a counter assault against the ancient alien race known as the Reapers that have launched an all-out invasion of the galaxy, and have already taken Earth. You mission, as it seems, is to take it back! Mass Effect 3 release is set for March 6, 2012 for the PC, PlayStation 3 and XBox 360. For the ones of you that find the demo download process too much of a hassle (after all it’s still a big download and you need to register for Origin) here is a 40 minute gameplay demo walkthrough that will show it for ya. Not gonna play the demo simply because I don’t want any spoilers. Mass Effect is one of my top favorite games so I want to play the full game when it comes out, with no interruptions, that includes job/friends/family/and the world in general :)

Thank you very much for a fantastic preview. The gameplay seems didint change much, but the story telling just holds yours breath as it always did. Love it.
Any news on the multiplayer? will it have co-op?

    • Adam Solo says:

Yes, it will feature co-op. About the demo BioWare advances: “Experience two spectacular levels from the single-player campaign, along with intense four player co-op multiplayer matches.”

  3. zigzag says:

I played through the demo yesterday and liked it! It doesn’t play dramatically differently from its predecessor, but then that’s why I’m looking forward to it!

    • Adam Solo says:

Which one did you liked the most? The original or the sequel? (if you played the original that is)

    • zigzag says:

I liked the sequel much more. I particularly enjoyed the new combat model. I think that makes me a bad gamer. :(

      • Adam Solo says:

I didn’t played any (yes, I know, unforgiving) but a friend of mine talked with me all about Mass Effect and said that he prefers the original more because I finds the sequel (I don’t remember the exact words) too predictable or linear, with respect to the combat model (what he calls cover FPS). He also added that he preferred Mass Effect 3 to be only FPS or only RPG, he finds the mix a bit disturbing or unnecessary. What do you think?

    • zigzag says:

The combat isn’t bad as far as cover shooters go, but not good enough to carry the game without its other elements. It’s interesting that your friend describes ME2’s linearity as a drawback. I enjoyed combat in ME2 more than ME1 precisely because the maps were less expansive and, in my opinion, better suited for the amount of action that they contained. I also don’t agree with his desire to keep the FPS and RPG elements separate. But then again, I love RPG/ hybrids.

  4. Roman Ein says:

Interesting stuff about co-op. I havent read anything about it actually, but will you be able to play a single mission in co-op mode or an entire campaign?

If its entire campaign i wonder if you get to choose what to say to Shephard during cut-scenes.

And I have to back SolCommand on “disconnecting” from the entire world until Earth is saved in ME3. Thats what i did with ME2.

    • Azaral says:

The multiplayer is not co-op in single player missions. It is a supplement to the single player mission and you take part in battles occuring across the galaxy. You will also be able to play as non-human species. Least that’s what I remember hearing.

  5. Adam Solo says:

Multiplayer co-op demo is now unlocked for everybody. Previously you would need to satisfy some kind of Battlefield 3 requirement to get a taste of co-op multiplayer. Now it’s open to all: http://masseffect.bioware.com/about/demo

  6. Larry says:

I downloaded and played the demo. Single player roleplaying mode. I liked it. The only two things that I’m unsure about are that the levels were a little too short for my tastes (that could just be that only a limited portion of each was available in the demo) and that the mooks (non-boss enemies) seem a little bit OP compared to the boss. I got killed twice by the mooks but not once by the boss.
