well...the game certainly lacks atmosphere...no random events...no secrets to discover..no anomalies to check...no wrecks of old spacecraft...to few techs which developes to fast and does not give enough room for strategic decisions...not enough different buildings to develope colonies in a more sophistic way...just to mention a few points...even Galactic Civilization I has done better in this areas and this is yeeeeears ago.

I agree with you, the game does lack some surprise factor. As you say, no random events and no anomalies/wrecks.
You feel curiosity (another important factor) sometimes but probably not as much as you should. You're limited to the what's-there moments only produced when you explore the systems and wonder if they will have a rich ideal planet or if a rival is to be found around the corner. But again you lack derilights or random events to spice up curiosity and surprise.
As for techs I do fancy them but they can run out very quickly as you say. Patch 1.02 mitigates this aspect a bit since now you can set the research speed so that techs don't run out so quickly if you want to.

I totally agree with this, so here's to hoping the expansion adds some!
