I’ve been doing some investigation lately regarding moo4. As far as I know the latest rumor was that Brad Wardell (Stardock’s CEO) could be interested in acquiring the rights of the franchise (owned by Atari) to go ahead and develop MOO4, but .. that’s about it.
Do you have any more information on MOO4, rumors, .. maybe something you read somewhere?
That seems to be all I can find as well.

Huh? It's not even in development, did you read the thread?
I was all about Wardell and his gamers bill of rights stuff until they released elemental - war of magic in a complete shit state which goes against everything he preached.
I understand the game was leaked so they were rushed to release it early, that is their own fault though.
I would love for a MOO IV, but I have lost my faith in Stardock (not like they actually pursued this anyways).
I've never cared about Elemental, but I was disappointed when Stardock decided to sell Impulse to Gamestop. Impulse was by far my favorite game download service, and I'd hoped that it would someday, somehow topple Steam (which I hate with the passion of a zillion suns). It's too early to tell yet, but Gamestop is itself lame and I'm not at all optimistic about Impulse's future as a non-retarded download service.
Ironically, though, the upside to that is now that Impulse is out of Wardell's hands, perhaps he'll have more time for actually developing games. The post Adam linked to is from 2008, but I hope that Wardell gets to do MOO4 after all. Part of why MOO3 sucked is that its designers didn't WANT to make it a real sequel, but Wardell has exactly the opposite attitude. (That's pretty amazing, considering all the years he's put up with fanboys mailing him requests to make GalCiv more like MOO2.) He's done such a good job with the GalCiv franchise that I would still have faith in him.
I'm also a bit disappointed with Impulse being bought by Gamestop. First because as you say who knows what will happen to Impulse now. Secondly because they terminated the Impulse affiliate program, so I cannot sell Impulse games anymore in SpaceSector.com with a commission

I will keep providing links for you guys to buy games from Impulse in any case, especially when they do special sales campaigns.
I would love to see MOO4 come to life one day. Stardock is the perfect candidate to do that. They know we want it, they probably also know we want them to make it. So what is stopping them? Rights?
Last I heard Atari still owned the rights to MOO4, but this is old information on my part. Maybe they sold it off without announcing it (or I just missed the news).
It has almost been 10 years since MOO3 came out. With the fiasco that was with MOO3, I think the brand may have healed and it could be a good time in starting to make a new one. Another point is that technology, both in hardware and software, has matured greatly and that could be a huge boon to MOO4.
That's not bad, dayrinni. I wouldn't be surprised if MOO4 could make a comeback like that. Actually, it's almost something of a tradition for space 4X games to suddenly reappear after a long absence. Armada 2526 - another game that has won its share of admirers around here - was itself a successor of a game from the distant past, and even GalCiv's very first incarnation was an ancient OS/2 game that few remember.
