Civilization 5 is coming out in September 21st! Iuupiii!
Anyone out there is also as enthusiastic about it as I am? (I believe many of you are).

You know already that now movement is in hexagons (6 possible movements) instead of 8 square movements; there is no religion; each tile will hold only one troop. Troops are limited to the number of controlled resources. There will be city states that act like neutral mini-civilizations.

But a lot more info you can read in this thread: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=372188.

So what are your expectations or worries about Civ 5?
I was somewhat concerned with some of the many and major changes done to the game itself,
but would have tried it anyway most likely.
Then I found out about that they would be integrating steam wholesale into Civ V...
Steam, or any form of DRM, is a no sale for me.

I will not touch anything with steam, gfwl, securom 7+, tages, online activation, starforce, or any such heavy-handed DRM.
I buy the game, I decide how it is played, when it is played,
and any interaction with the creators or "property owners" beyond that should be entirely on my initiative.
This is not a console market or a monopoly,
nor do I wish it to become as such.

Man, here I was only going to say "Civ V+Steam = No sale"..
That's what I get for caring about gaming.
Is steam a game platform where you buy, install and play your games like Impulse?
I see so many people complaining and discussing about this. Care to explain me what is the big deal about steam anyway?

I will try to explain it as succinct as possible, as not to derail this thread. ,)
Steam is like a mish-mash of Impulse, Xfire and DRM in one.
You can browse, buy & download games.
You get achievements, in-game msg's, etc.
In order to play a steam game, steam has to be started and online.
One can play in offline mode, but it seems like there are still some difficulties with that for some.

Now I will give my opinion as to why this is not good;
It basically turns PC-gaming into console gaming.
You have to activate it online, and play online most of the time.
You want to play a steam game, you will have to install steam.
All games with steam are basically "on loan".
There is no saying what the future holds.
Steam servers, or even valve could be bought, taken over,
bankrupt, turn into something else, and *poff*;
all your games are just so much wasted money.
Games bought in the golden 90's, you can install and play whenever, wherever,
without third party programs or internet.
And you can forget about re-selling Steam games, or trading them with buddies.
Or keep it at a certain version, since whenever you go online, it will auto-update it.
Which has ruined many mods and gaming session with those playing without steam integration.

And that's my two cents. ^^
Got it. Thanks for the explanation Vendor.
