Hey Guys, i would like to create a list of all PC-Games mentioned on Spacesector and which Online-DRM they use, if any. If you have additions or corrections, just make a post, i will keep this list here up-to-date.

Ha, now this sounds like a neat idea. Perhaps in the future I could add an attribute on the games list saying if a game is DRM free or not, and which mechanism it uses. Right now the list of attributes is a bit crowded but I intend to re-arrange that a bit. So, the DRM mechanism (or none) a game uses could be a nice new attribute.

I am an avid fighter against these online DRM for various reasons and try to avoid these games at all cost. Recently I bought Sins of a Solar Empire from Amazon and after a lot of hassle I found out that the key is invalid. Stardock support insisted on that this key has been registered before and the shop probably sold a used game even if it looked new. I doubt Amazon does this and the game was clearly mint. Luckily Amazon is very accommodating and took the game back. However, i was quite p****d.

I just want to prevent this from happening a second time. Or positively give guidance which games are safe to buy, even used.

The list is only useful for people still buying physical releases.

While slightly off topic, Diablo 3, a mostly single play game (it does have an online component), requires online DRM for single player. A lot of people raged about this. But online DRM is the least of D3's worries...

Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion uses Steamworks

The other versions use "Goo," which only requires an internet connection on activation.

Never heard of this Goo, can you please describe it a little more or give me some link with more information.

Goo is the name that Stardock gave to the original DRM used by Impulse. Here's a brief description of the technology.
