Gratuitous Space Battles Complete

Gratuitous Space Battles is a Space Strategy Game developed by an UK indie developer named Positech Games. It’s a strategy and simulation game that does not contain all the traditional elements of a 4x space strategy game but rather concentrates in ship design and space battles.

In Gratuitous Space Battles you assign your ships, arrange them into fleets, give them upfront orders of engagement and then site down and watch the result of your deployment strategy: It’s all about wondering if all the decisions have been done right and if you can come out victorious from battle. Distant Worlds is a new real-time 4x space strategy game being developed by CodeForce and to be published by Matrix Games. The game beta phase is now almost finished and although the official game release date is not yet announced  the game is expected to be released in the first quarter of 2010.

Distant Worlds is a real-time strategy game. In contrast with turn-based games like Master of Orion 2, Galactic Civilizations or Armada 2526, in DW the player can be surprised at any time by new events or by enemy attacks which requires the player to make decisions on the spot in a continuous gaming experience. Aphelion: Phoenix Rising is a new 4x space strategy game currently being developed by the Wyvern Studios a game development company founded by Brad Ottoson and Jared O’Connor.

Brad told me that “[Aphelion] is inspired by various 4x space strategy games like MOO2 and Birth of the Federation”. Saying that I immediately decided to investigate the game progress and write an article about it. Continue reading

Astro Empires – MMOG – First Impressions

Thursday, September 17th, 2009
intro

This is the first of future articles about first impressions when playing a space strategy game. Of course that this kind of analysis is not so deep as a thorough review so it may be subject to more criticism, but that is a risk I´m willing to take.

Astro Empires is already a well established free space strategy (the free mode has some limitations, but is fully playable) web-based game known by many players. The idea of this article is to give the reader a global overview of this game to make it easier for newcomers. Continue reading | 2 Comments
