Today Pikaia Games has open up Renations to the public. This means that Renations is now officially in open beta status. By massively multiplayer online terms open beta means the stage where the MMO game is put in front of the public for the first time. This stage is used mostly for marketing purposes. Literature suggests that at open beta MMO games should already be finished (but usually this seems not to be the case).<\/p>\n
Renations is a free browser-based massively multiplayer online real-time strategy game (abbreviated MMORTS) set in a future apocalyptic world. In this sci-fi setting you found your nation, explore new lands, research technologies, establish alliances and wage war with your enemies.<\/p>\n
Renations is Pikaia’s Games first game, a new indie studio founded by four brothers from Sweden. This is actually a MMO game I enjoyed playing. It features a nice bundle of features. At times, and in a way, it made me feel like playing Civilization on a browser with a post-apocalyptic setting.\u00a0Only time will tell if Renations has enough depth (and not too many annoyances) to keep me interested, but for now I will play it in the background to check-in from time to time.
