I played a long time ago (almost 14 years), but I still remember how addictive and fun its turn-based tactical system was. The tension, the\u00a0humor, the depth, the visceral experience. It was really a great game.<\/p>\n<p>In many ways Jagged Alliance 2 reminds me of X-COM: UFO Defense, the tactical combat part at least. But, in JA2 you control mercenaries fighting the minions of an authoritarian state, while in X-COM you play with special operatives fighting an alien incursion.<\/p>\n<p>Couple of weeks ago, <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.spacesector.com\/blog\/2013\/04\/full-control-announces-a-fresh-but-true-jagged-alliance\/\" target=\"_blank\">we wrote about Full Control&#8217;s announcement<\/a> for a new Jagged Alliance game, which should be both &#8220;fresh&#8221; and &#8220;true&#8221; to the series. But, as they say in the KS video,\u00a0have decided not to be funded by bitComposer via a traditional Publisher-Developer\u00a0scheme, so to keep its independence intact. Therefore, the Kickstarter decision.<\/p>\n<p>Full Control intends to stay true to what made the original Jagged Alliance games great. But, they also plan to upgrade the gameplay with the inclusion of a deeper strategic layer. There would be a clear gameplay separation into two layers: a tactical combat layer and a deeper than previously found strategy layer. So, besides choosing your next assignment and managing your squad, you&#8217;d also manage a base, add new facilities to that base, and even conduct research to unlock better weapons.<\/p>\n<p>The story is now set during the Cold War in the mid-1980s with a USSR vs USA showdown, on the Caribbean island group of San Christobal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jagged Alliance: Flashback major features:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Single-player tactical turn-based action<\/li>\n<li>Cover system and 3D tile system with multiple levels<\/li>\n<li>Roleplaying: NPC interaction<\/li>\n<li>Customizable mercenaries (from gear to hair style)<\/li>\n<li>Base management: plan missions, build training facilities, research new weapons, defend captured areas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_9000\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9000\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9000\" title=\"Jagged Alliance: Flashback - Base concept art\" src=\"https:\/\/www.spacesector.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/jagged_alliance_flashback_concept_art_base1.jpg\" alt=\"Jagged Alliance: Flashback - Base concept art\" width=\"590\" height=\"332\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.spacesector.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/jagged_alliance_flashback_concept_art_base1.jpg 590w, https:\/\/www.spacesector.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/jagged_alliance_flashback_concept_art_base1-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 590px) 100vw, 590px\" \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-9000\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jagged Alliance: Flashback - Base concept art<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Full Control\u2019s\u00a0<a  href=\"http:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/2079547763\/jagged-alliance-flashback\" target=\"_blank\">Jagged Alliance: Flashback<\/a>\u00a0proposal in a nutshell:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Turn-based strategy\/tactics<\/li>\n<li>Cold War setting (mid 1980&#8217;s)<\/li>\n<li>Single-player story driven gameplay (in French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish)<\/li>\n<li>Windows, Mac, Linux<\/li>\n<li>DRM-free option<\/li>\n<li>ETA: late 2014 (2015 if stretch goals achieved &#8211; to be disclosed later)<\/li>\n<li>Target: $350,000 (May 23, 5:59pm EDT) &#8211; \u00a0&#8220;If we just barely make the goal, the game size will possibly not have the size and complexity of what some players expect from a spiritual successor for Jagged Alliance 2. The irresistible\u00a0urge to help these guys bring back one of the best PC games of all time?
