StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm – Opening Cinematic

By on January 22nd, 2013 12:12 pm

Blizzard has revealed the opening cinematic for StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm.

HotS is the second installment of Blizzard’s sci-fi real-time strategy trilogy for StarCraft 2, where now, the Zerg – one of the three StarCraft’s races – has the central stage. The cinematic sets the story in motion for the expansion. About the plot, Blizzard puts it in this terms: “Why is Kerrigan seeking out Zerg broods scattered throughout the Koprulu sector? Is she still pursuing her quest for vengeance, or has her transformation given Kerrigan a new purpose?”. Apparently, some questions will be answered, but others will only be in the final episode – Legacy of the Void – which will portray the Protoss, the other race apart from the Humans. StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm releases on March 12, 2013 for Windows and Mac.

Blizzard can surely deliver astonishing cinematics. Turn on the HD and enjoy.

I’m not an RTS fan, but that was quite an impressive video.

  2. Garmine says:

They have some nice rendering stuff. :)

  3. Janek says:

Probably this time I am going to watch all the cinematics on YouTube – I bought first part of SC2, but I do not like multiplayer (you have to have like 8 hands to be good in it ;)) and the price is much too high if you play single only. Wish they could release SP-only version.

I feel you, I’m much more apt to just chill out with a 4X nowadays myself. If you can put in the practice time though starcraft multiplayer is great stuff, and of course playing against another person is way more interesting than what any AI can muster.

  4. Alien JD says:

Amazing trailer. I didn’t like StarCraft 2 very much. Too much clicking and not very much strategy. I’ll pass on this one. $40.00 is too much for an expansion pack.

  5. SQW says:

What do you mean it’s not Warhammer 40K: Attack of the Tyranids?

  6. Stupid Space Lizard says:

    Wow, that was amazing looking.

Also more explosions and less Raynor, yes please.

  7. PavlosG says:

    Impressive !

I strongly feel that Blizzard should stop feeding 50+ guys in the cinematics department and work to include something new in the bloody game (likeanother race in the game, why not the Xel’Naga). I clocked more than 6000 games in SC1, but hardly had the patience to play but a few games in SC2.

If evolution worked at the pace Blizzard innovates, earth would still be covered with -very sophisticated and smart looking- single cell organisms…

I have another idea: maybe they should focus on producing CGI graphics /movies instead of doing games?:P

      • PavlosG says:

        That’s an idea indeed.

But I am afraid the CGI movie will be the same: a collection and mix of every existing meme on the planet. Safety in knowledge. What else to expect when a budget for a game is more than 150/200 million dollars ? (it was about 10 million in 2000 when I worked for Kalisto, the largest video-game company in Europe).

Blizzard must have the best technicians in the field, but keeps them on a very short leash: I guess the board of directors is risk-averse.

We are a long way from what Enrico Fermi said: “North Americans are more daring because they are the descendants of people that dared cross the Atlantic” (or something like this).

  8. Wodzu says:

    Wow!

After playing over 3000+ games on BattleNet for SC 1. maybe it is time for me to finally try out SC 2 :)

  9. Towerbooks3192 says:

Its depressing. I used to love blizzard but hate how they killed their series. I may not be good at SC1 but I loved that game and I don’t regret purchasing all the Warchest of their 3 great games (SC,WC3,D2). I could play my SC1 for years to come but the always online DRM and the way they turned D3 into an MMO is depressing. I want a game I could own not something I would rent from Blizzard
