By on January 9th, 2011 12:50 pm

Gemini Wars is a Space Real-Time Strategy (RTS) Game currently being developed by Camel 101, an independent and self funded game development studio.

Game Features (from Gemini Wars website):

  • 3 unique factions, with different units and strategies.
  • Epic single player campaign.
  • Ability to control fleets of starships, space stations and planets.
  • Research tree leading to powerful units and upgrades.
  • Cinematic battle camera.
  • Multiplayer action providing endless re-playability.
  • Unique gameplay providing a refreshing twist to the RTS genre.

Gameplay

In Gemini Wars, you are a fleet commander rising through the ranks of the United Space Federation forces.
Start with a small group of frigates, and climb your way to controlling battleships, carriers and planetary bases, in huge space battles and boarding actions.

Build space stations and orbital facilites to fortify your position, build your fleet, extract minerals and research upgrades. Execute boarding actions using marine special forces, and bombard your enemies with orbital long range cannons.

At first look the game seems similar to the Homeworld and Sins of a Solare Empire series.

    Wow…

This looks really interesting. But it does looks very much like SSOE..

You mean Sins of a Solar Empire? Yes, it resembles SoaSE a lot, and Homeworld too. Let’s see if they will be able to innovate the economy, research, planatery development, ship design and combat (will not be easy).

SoaSE is in my opinion what a Space RTS game can ever be, the idea is not to copy that but to innovate. Let’s see what Gemini Wars has to add.

I enjoy SoaSE and Homeworld a lot but personally I prefer 4x TBS more, e.g. Master of Orion, Galactic Civilizations and Armada 2526. I’m still hopeful to see Master of Orion 4 one day…

I agree with the earlyer comments. I like the content so far. I too enjoy Homeworld a lot. I would very much like to see this game innovate the genre to make it more interesting to (re) play. One of the things i miss in all these games is the possibility to land on planets and mine, build, grow, fight and trade.
It would be nice if it where possible to set up trade and mining networks that provide your resources. To minimize micromanagement ships should be progammable.
A bit like Stars! you can set tasks for ships and then forget them. At least until your traderouts are being threatend. I like empire building games a lot.
I will keep an eye out for this game

Pre-Order is up on Gamestop, I might wait till release and a few reviews shake out.
